Keto Hot Cocoa Electrolyte Recipe

Hippie woman with red hair holding a cup of hot cocoa

Trying to monitor your sugar intake and improve your insulin resistance? It took me a long time to find the appropriate recipe for a Keto Hot Cocoa Electrolyte Mix that was both satisfying and functional. I wanted something that could satisfy my hot cocoa cravings while also keeping me hydrated and replenishing essential electrolytes. After testing countless versions and trying expensive brands like LMNT and Salt of the Earth, I finally landed on a homemade mix that is affordable, customizable, and just as effective.

A Hydrating & Guilt-Free Sweet Treat!

Not only does this mix taste rich and indulgent, but it also provides sodium, potassium, and magnesium, exactly what your body needs when you are dehydrated, sweating, or recovering from a workout. Below, I will share the full recipe, nutritional breakdown, and links to the ingredients so you can make your own!

Why Do Hydration and Electrolytes Matter?

If you have been feeling sluggish, lightheaded, or experiencing muscle cramps especially at night, you might be low on electrolytes. This is especially true if you have been:

✅ Sweating a lot (from workouts, hot weather, or sauna sessions)

✅ Exercising intensely and losing minerals through sweat

✅ Following a keto or low carb diet, where lower insulin levels cause your body to excrete more sodium and potassium

✅ Feeling dehydrated from not drinking enough water

A well-balanced electrolyte mix with sodium, potassium, and magnesium can help restore your body’s mineral balance, reduce headaches, and prevent the dreaded keto flu. This hot cocoa mix delivers all of that, while giving you a cozy, sweet treat at the same time!

Why Make Your Own Electrolyte Cocoa Mix?

If you have considered brands like LMNT ($45./30 servings) or Salt of the Earth ($53./30 servings), you know that staying hydrated can get expensive fast. With this homemade version, you get 40+ servings for a fraction of the cost, plus full control over the ingredients without any weird fillers or additives.

I have linkinked all the ingredients below so you can easily grab what you need!

Ingredients (Makes Approx. 40 Servings)

✨ 2 cups cocoa powder (unsweetened, organic)

✨ 1½ cups coconut milk powder (adds creaminess & healthy fats)

✨ ½ cup monk fruit sweetener or other sugar-free sweetener (adjust to taste).

✨ ¼ cup Celtic sea salt or Himalayan pink salt (for sodium & other minerals)

✨ ¼ cup potassium citrate powder (to support muscle function & hydration)

✨ ¼ cup magnesium glycerinate powder (helps with relaxation & recovery)

*The first batch I made, I did not have any granulated sweetener, so I added liquid Stevia to each cup I made. Be creative with what you have on hand!

Optional Add-Ins:

💫 2 tbsp MCT powder or powdered coconut oil (boosts ketones & energy)

💫 1 tbsp vanilla bean powder or 2 tbsp powdered vanilla extract (adds flavor)

💫 ½ cup collagen peptides powder (supports skin, joints, and gut health)

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in a large bowl, whisking thoroughly to evenly distribute.

Store in an airtight glass jar in a cool, dry place.

To serve:

Stir 1+ tbsp of the mix into 8-10 oz of hot water (or unsweetened almond milk for extra creaminess). Mix well and enjoy!
